One thing I struggle with sometimes is the phrase “I will pray for You.” In some ways it seems like a replacement for true emotional support one needs in a time of trouble. Sometimes even for myself I will shoot that statement out and not realize there is a lot of weight behind the action of prayer.
Prayer is the true interface between a person and God. In the old days you had to go through a priest to talk to God. Since Christ gave his life for us and was resurrected we now can talk with him or God directly and to tell them what is happening in our lives and our concerns for others. This is how he knows us and our thoughts and more importantly our heart. It’s something we should do when things are well or status quo. It’s also something we should especially do during times of trouble, for us or others.
Many who are veterans in the faith themselves even say that prayer can be a hard thing to do. It takes the use of faith and trust in what and who we do not see to deal with deep issues and problems. Even so, no matter what we have to do as part of being in Christ. Without it we do not develop the needed relationship we should have with him.
One of the biggest encouraging scriptures given by Christ himself shows the power of Prayer:
Jesus declared in Matthew 17:20 (ESV) — He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
In this bold statement he shows that we need to be faithful in that what we ask for in prayer will be answered. This is important in the act of most of all seeking his will in prayer. believe that he will answer you when you pray for things. Even the impossible!
Next time you tell somebody that you will pray for them, always keep in mind that statement. God can do anything for you and them, simply by asking for it.
Pray for each other always!
