One of this subjects that came up this week was how people from the outside world view churches. One of the biggest problems perceived by most unconverted and those in the faith is encountering arrogance in the church. Those churches that suffer a lack or loss of growth typically will have a problem with arrogance. One of which is the belief that they are the only ones who have the truth.

One of the undertandings in the Christian world that is understood by those who have been in it for a while is that is not a true statement. Churches will have varying degrees of the truth but as time shows us, not one of them has it all.

Reason being is that we are to be pursuing the truth with all our might. Meaning it hasn’t come thoroughly to anyone yet but we arrive at it in time, and complete it in God’s Kingdom.

That is why we can consider those who do not worship on the same days or at the same times brothers and sisters. We are all in Christ and all looking for the same thing. What better way than to put our differences aside and work together to do it together. Not one of us is better than the other, as Scripture shows us, we need to esteem others better than ourselves.

Proverbs 16:5 gives us a warning that anyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord.

Therefore we must always be loving towards everyone and especially those in Christ.

John 13:35 sums up the whole nature of a Christian as they appear to the world:

Christ said: By this everyone will know you are my disciples, if you love one another.

With this in mind I want to also thank the Grace Church and Fredonia’s Presbyterian Church for giving us a home every Sabbath. They truly model the John 13:35 appearance in great ways.

Have a great Sabbath!

Your brother in Christ,

Steve Koenig
