Monday there will be a solar eclipse covering a good portion of our area. We are due to see it here at 3:16PM and Buffalo shortly after. Pray all goes well because this will bring all the region to a standstill for a while during the event.
While the Eclipse is a big event for a large portion of the US and Canada It reminded me of the Pink Floyd Concert Rachel and I went to for our Honeymoon in 1994. Of course their biggest selling album in all time was Dark Side of the Moon. At the concert during the title song we were treated to a large version of an eclipse when the song was being performed. It was the best concert I ever went to for many reasons.
The final song on Dark Side of the Moon was appropriately titled “Eclipse.” That song had a special meaning to me later as it was one that echoed in my mind as the church I attended all my life imploded a year later changing my life and many others forever. It was a tough time.
Dark Side of the Moon was written as a way to cope with the ills of society in 1972. Over 50 years later it is still valid in its focus and content as the issues of Society seemed to only get worse since. In that time we have seen leadership become more corrupt and society in a free fall of decay. The church I was in now split 2 times more.
Many of the lyrics in the song “Eclipse” were very appropriate for then as they are now. Corruption and robbing the person of rational thinking seem to be the theme of the song. In the end it became very haunting as it said: “Everything under the sun is in tune but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.” If you plug in the fall of man and Satan’s power you can see what the moon represents in the world today as it did when it was written. The goodness and light of God eclipsed by the fall of man.
It reminds me of what the Lord said in Isaiah 15:7. I form the light and create Darkness I make Peace and create evil. I the Lord do all these things.”
While it may look as though God created evil in the sense as we know it today. This is not exactly what he was saying as the passage was translated in a lacking of full Hebrew definitions. The word for evil is Ra’or rah. It’s a blanket word that can describe evil and misery or affliction. He created good and gave man the option to choose it. He also gave them the choice to choose evil and all that came with it. The fall of man and the reign of Satan on this Earth are a result of that choice.
Someday our Lord will return and bring with him the Kingdom of God. It will be something that no man has ever seen or felt in the years that man has been on the Earth. Like the Eclipse next week, eventually the moon will move on and let the sun shine again. The son we know will force this world and its ruler out and let his light shine everlasting!
Happy Sabbath!
Your brother in Christ,
Steve Koenig
