How do we know we believe?
It was nice to get away from things for the first time in a long time on Labor Day. It was nice also to see some old parts of Michigan I haven’t seen in 27 years and see some of the northern countryside. Interestingly the place we stayed at that Rachel found turned out to be a possible location for a Feast of Tabernacles in the future.
While there it was nice to connect with nature in ways I haven’t in a while. I am usually too busy to enjoy it here even though we have similar things right out our door. While there, some of the boys tried night fishing, so I decided to mess with the phone camera for some night photos. Interestingly enough where we were you could see a good part of an arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. I was only successful once to try and capture what we saw after many tries.
It brought to mind an answer to a question that was posed to me over the summer. How do we know that we truly believe in God? Some of those answers seemed to be basic but reveal so much about our belief in Him.
One of which is, when you look at the heavens above, the stars, planets and even the clouds, sun and moon and know He created them through Jesus Christ; that is a sign you truly believe in Him. It may seem odd because we assume all people will see the same when the look above them but its not true. In schools we were taught that it all happened by accident and all of a sudden a big bang happened and there it all was. Thank God it is far from the truth!
The truth also consists of knowing He created these things and we know in our hearts that it wasn’t random. It was created by Him with us in mind.
What is even more impressive for new people coming to know Jesus Christ is that often is where it begins for them on the road to seek and know him. Then in time they see the truth in scripture:
Colossians 1:16-17 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
For us, who have been in the faith for a long time, looking at the sky once in a while with awe at his creation just reminds us that it was Him. He created all things and we can see that in what he created.
Proverbs 1:7 says the fear (or reverence) of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. The things we see and the ways we acknowledge Him in these things helps us on our life long journey to know Him better every day.
Happy Sabbath!
Your brother in Christ,
Steve Koenig
