Did God make the right choice?
Hard to believe that the most tumultuous election in a lifetime is over and President Donald Trump will be headed back to the White house. It is sobering to see how many people suffered from exhaustion from the election campaigning as most of it was challenging to the moral fabric of the country. While many applaud the decision to have Trump back in charge again sometimes we may ask ourselves did God make the right choice for this country?
Ultimately if we ask that question we are admitting to the truth about God’s control over worldly affairs:
Daniel 2:20-21 says 20 and said:
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
21 He changes times and seasons;
he deposes kings and raises up others.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
Still the question remains, did he make the right choice? When ye look at history we find moral leadership lacking for the most part in world leaders. King Saul, Israel’s first king failed in the end and was replaced by David. David was called by God a many after his own heart but he to made poor decisions that led to deep periods of lawlessness and unrest. In the time that followed there were very few righteous kings. The trend went forward throughout the world and throughout time. All the way up to modern leadership who have been lacking in morals and Godly behavior. Even the best leaders of our times are still very much worldly and give in to worldly things.
Regardless of whether we ask the question or say that he did or did not make the right choice is irrelevant. He put those in charge to show us many things and to test those he loves most. Times of great national unrest have resulted in those martyred for their beliefs. One such person will be highlighted in an upcoming feature movie “Bonhoeffer.”
Some may argue that bad things would not happen if God installed righteous leadership continually. The down side to such leadership is that it is human and not God. That leadership often replaces God in the hearts and minds of people as they idolize them for their abilities and charisma. God never intends outward traits of a person to be a reason to overlook their flaws. Human leadership is always flawed. The bible shows all of Gods people suffered with the weakness of being a sinful human. It was only when they were humble in submitting to Him and repenting of their evil that things began to improve. Only Jesus Christ was truly flawless.
God puts bad leadership in to bring out sin in the world and to test his people. Good leadership comes as a comfort to his people but only if they obey God.
Proverbs 29:2
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people mourn.”
Many times righteous leadership is a rest for hard times for His people. Understand it is not a time to be lazy and hope things will improve with good leadership. Vigilance often has to be more so during good times in order not to get accustom to not having the issues that would come up with different leadership. We have but be on guard for when they change and keep ourselves pure. God expects us to remain close to Him and still maintain our way of life in good times as well as the bad. Good leadership is not flawless and still suffers from the human condition. We have to always look to God and Jesus Christ for true leadership qualities.
In looking at this question, regardless, God made the choice that suits his will for us. And he is fully aware of what lies ahead and what the end results are. All things work in the end for those who love him no matter what!
