Prayer cannot be controlled
In the previous message we saw how places in this world are trying to regulate and control prayer. It must be noted that not all places are looking to do this.Texas State Senate Bill SB11 on March 18, 2025 effectively put prayer back in state schools. It also allowed for bible study time during the school day. While this is a great thing for the state of Texas showing the power that prayer can have to people. Many who try to stop it fear it, thinking they can prevent people from praying to their God.
As we saw in Matthew 5:5, we are to pray in secret and God will reward us openly. But is there ever a time where we cannot pray?
The only way we cannot pray is if we deliberately stop it ourselves. Even then if we have the indwelling Holy Spirit nothing can stop us from communication with God. We know this by Paul’s writing in Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
The “wordless groans” are the innermost thoughts and feelings prompted by the Holy Spirit. When we have feelings and reactions that cry out to God even when our mouth does not move. The Spirit brings out the real us to God over time more than words can ever do.
It is the same for us as a whole that we are judged in our hearts, not our words or actions. The Holy Spirit is a helper to help us align our hearts and minds with the will of God.
So now matter what they do and how they try to stop it, there is nothing they can do to prevent God communication with His Children.
The rest of this chapter is one of the most quoted scriptures:
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
No matter what man tries to do to limit God it never works. His power and will will always overcome anything done through the flesh.
