Power in God’s correction

When we read the bible we often think of our favorite passages and like to go to them often in various times of our lives. Many of these passages are well known to the Christian populous and are found in many aspects of Christianity. Then there are some we overlook or have read but glanced over not realizing that there is a rich benefit to our Christian walk.

One passage is found in the minor prophet Micah. Micha was a prophet from a small town of Moreseth around the 8th century BC. He is known for delivering a message of judgment and hope, condemning Israel and Judah for their sins while also promising eventual restoration and forgiveness.

One of the most powerful passages in Micah was the power of God’s correction and forgiveness found in Micah 7:7-9

7: Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.

8 Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise; when I sit in darkness, The Lord will be a light to me. 9 I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against Him, Until He pleads my case And executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the light; I will see His righteousness.

Not only is this a powerful testimony of how God’s correction restores but also that an enemy who rejoices in the downfall is warned. The outcome will be greater than what they see at that time. The correction that brings them low will cause them to rise stronger and closer to God that they were before. No enemy wants their foe stronger than them. That warning is unique to this passage but shows the power of His correction.

All correction from God brings positive change for those who receive it. It is a reminder of Hebrews 12:6 where it says “Because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” It is a reminder that he loves us and has our best interests as His children at the heart of it all.
