As we go forward into March most people will be looking forward to the spring and spring holidays and Holy Days. Our Host churches will be observing their different practices, some members of our church observe different days according to their calendar, while some will observe the Easter observances. The majority of them will have some observance of the Passover, also known as the Lord’s Supper and to others, Communion. This is a special observation of our annual commitment to Jesus Christ and a reminder to us that we are part of His spiritual body. The symbols of the observance are a physical reminder of Him living in us through the Holy Spirit.
This time always reminds me of the doctor’s appointments I have to keep once a year. Every year I am required like many people to go through a full examination to see how my health is doing. Am I taking care of myself? Do I exercise and eat right? Are there any health issues that have popped up since the last visit? These are some of the things we look at during these visits.
In the time we have in the next few weeks we should take time to look at our commitment to Jesus and see in fact that we have him living in us. In doing so it’s like an annual visit to the doctor. Only this doctor lives inside us and is helping us through our walk as a Christian daily.
The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians who demanded proof that Jesus Christ was speaking to them through Paul. His response was to tell them to examine themselves to see the answer they were looking for:
2 Corinthians 13: 3 since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. 4 For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him in our dealing with you.
5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? 6 And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test.
It is the most important examination we should partake of, More than our physical health it is our spiritual health. As we get older we start to lose our physical health but our spiritual health should always bring us closer to Jesus Christ and see its power in our lives more every day.
In Christ always,
