If you look at the headlines long enough you can easily be discouraged and troubled. It seems like the prophecies of the Book of Timothy are becoming more and more evident around the world as we see more lawlessness and a lack of love between people. One thing Paul’s letter to Timothy showed him was that in the end time men will be lovers of themselves and because the love for each other waxes cold lawlessness abounds.
Those who read the bible on a regular basis will look at such things and have some immediate reactions to them. Oftentimes we ask God, why do you let the things we see happen? Why does such lawlessness continue while you rule? We sometimes ask as well, when will it finally end? What will happen to me or my family?
Oftentimes a Christian will get a simple answer as the Holy Spirit prompts it. That answer is “Fear not.” a simple 2 word sentence from Isaiah that carries the full weight of a promise from God himself that we must not fear what we see and trust in Him.
Isaiah 41 is where this verse is; Let’s look at the whole passage:
9 I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.11 “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. 2 Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all.13 For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
God’s people were sent into captivity because of their continual disobedience to God. He promised them that the story was not over and a future redemption was to come. ‘Fear Not’ was to regain a sense of hope and a longing for a future restoration.
While the world may get worse for a time we know that those opposed to His people will not win, they never do. They will have won battles but they already lost the war. We know that in the future God’s Kingdom will rightly be the only power on Earth for eternity.
So remember when you see troubling things as a Christian we are told a promise by God, Fear not!
In Christ always,
